Winter Weather Hits Kentuckiana, Snow and Slush Expected on Tuesday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Roads across Kentuckiana are wet and slick this Tuesday morning as snow blankets the region, prompting officials to issue a Winter Storm Warning for much of Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The National Weather Service’s warning covers significant portions of the area, while Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for surrounding regions.

With snow accumulation expected to range from two to four inches, the Louisville area is bracing for slushy roads and sidewalks throughout the day. Bands of heavier snowfall are also possible, particularly south and southeast of the Metro.

Louisville Metro’s Snow Team began preparations for the storm early, beginning their work at 7 p.m. Monday night. The team continued its efforts overnight, treating roads in anticipation of the morning snow to ensure safe driving conditions for commuters. However, due to rain preceding the snow, pre-treatment with brine was not feasible, as the rain would dilute and wash it away, leaving roads more susceptible to slick conditions.

At 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Snow Team relieved the night shift and resumed treating the area’s 110 designated snow routes. Officials stressed the importance of continuing these efforts throughout the day to keep roadways safe. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling, as conditions may deteriorate quickly in some spots.

For those navigating the city, Louisville Metro Government has made available detailed maps of snow routes, which can be accessed through the city’s website. These routes are being prioritized to ensure critical roads remain passable throughout the storm.

As snow continues to fall in the region, residents are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions when traveling.
