LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UPS Worldport has announced the suspension of its Next Day Air sort operations and the cancellation of domestic inbound flights due to severe weather conditions expected to impact the Louisville area overnight.
In a statement released by UPS, spokesperson Jim Mayer explained that the company is taking the “unusual step” of halting these operations as a precautionary measure. Mayer emphasized that the decision was made in response to forecasts indicating severe weather, which could potentially disrupt the safety and efficiency of their operations.
The company reassured customers that operations are expected to resume Thursday morning once the weather conditions improve. However, the disruptions are likely to cause delays in the processing and delivery of packages, especially those reliant on the Next Day Air service.
UPS, known for its expansive global logistics network, operates the Worldport facility as one of the largest air hubs in the world. The hub processes millions of packages each day, making it a crucial point for shipments across the United States and internationally.
While UPS has not provided specific details on the duration of the delays, customers are advised to track shipments for updates and check with UPS customer service for further information.
As the situation develops, it remains unclear whether additional weather-related disruptions could affect operations at other UPS facilities across the country.
For now, UPS is closely monitoring weather patterns and working to resume normal operations as soon as conditions allow.
