Louisville, Ky. — A tragic shooting in Shively Monday evening has left three young men dead. Shively Police responded to a call at approximately 5:20 p.m. reporting a shooting in the 2200 block of Crums Lane, just off Dixie Highway. The incident took place at an apartment complex located across from Butler High School.
Authorities have not yet identified the victims or revealed their connection to the apartment complex. According to Shively Police spokesperson Sgt. Jordan Brown, all three victims were in their early 20s and died within minutes of each other.
At this time, police have not made any arrests and are unsure of the motive behind the attack. However, authorities believe there is no ongoing threat to the community.
While the investigation continues, residents of the area are still processing the shock of such violence occurring in their neighborhood. Montana, a young man who lives across the parking lot from the scene, expressed his sadness over the tragedy.
“It’s tragic,” Montana said. “Three young dudes—that is sad. They have mommas, they have lives in front of them and stuff. It is sad.”
Less than an hour after the shooting, the parking lot was filled with detectives and crime scene investigators as they worked to gather evidence and piece together what had happened. The presence of flashing police lights left many residents returning home from work shaken by the events.
Sgt. Brown emphasized that while the shooting is extremely rare for this area, it does not appear to be a threat to the public. “This is not something that’s typical of our city in this area,” Brown stated. “It’s exceedingly rare. So I don’t feel that there’s a threat to the community at this time.”
As Shively Police continue their investigation, they are urging anyone with information to come forward. Those with tips can contact the Shively Police Tip Line at 502-930-2773.
The community remains on edge as police work to uncover the circumstances behind this senseless loss of life.
