LOUISVILLE, Ky. — All lanes of Interstate 64 west at Eastwood Fisherville Road were reopened Sunday evening after a series of crashes involving multiple vehicles, caused by icy conditions on the roadway.
According to MetroSafe, the incidents occurred when the road began to ice over, leading to a hazardous driving situation. Salt trucks were quickly deployed to treat the road in an attempt to alleviate the dangerous conditions.
A TRIMARC alert indicated that 17 vehicles were involved in the series of collisions. While the extent of any injuries remains unclear at this time, authorities have not reported any serious incidents.
The closure lasted for approximately 40 minutes, and traffic was able to resume once the road was cleared and deemed safe for travel. Local officials are urging drivers to exercise caution in the area as temperatures remain below freezing, potentially leading to further icy spots on the road.
