Meade County Man Dies in Head-On Collision on Payneville Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A tragic two-vehicle crash near Payneville Road resulted in the death of a 20-year-old Meade County man late Saturday night, Kentucky State Police reported.

Authorities responded to the scene around 11:15 p.m. near the 4100 block of KY-144. According to police, Robert Eldridge, 20, of Battletown, was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang westbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, Eldridge’s vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2025 Toyota Tacoma.

The truck was driven by 44-year-old John Kaw of Louisville. Eldridge was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaw and a passenger in Eldridge’s car sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported by air to the University of Louisville Hospital.

KY-144 was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and reconstruct the crash scene.

Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
