LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A man was shot Saturday night during a carjacking in southwest Jefferson County, but police quickly apprehended the suspect, Louisville Metro Police reported.
According to LMPD spokesperson John Bradley, officers responded to the scene in the 7200 block of National Turnpike, near Outer Loop, around 9:45 p.m. Upon arrival, authorities found the victim, who had suffered a graze wound. The victim told police he was carjacked at gunpoint by the suspect, who stole his vehicle during the attack.
The carjacking took place shortly before the victim was shot. Law enforcement officials said the suspect made off with the victim’s vehicle, a dark Chevy Trailblazer. A short time later, officers spotted the stolen car and initiated a brief pursuit.
The chase ended when police were able to stop the vehicle in the 3200 block of Taylor Boulevard. At approximately 10:05 p.m., the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Montrell Thompson, was taken into custody without further incident.
Thompson, a convicted felon with multiple prior offenses, is prohibited from possessing a handgun. An arrest citation revealed that Thompson faces charges of robbery, receiving stolen property, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
LMPD’s Robbery Unit is continuing to investigate the incident, and Thompson remains in custody as the investigation unfolds.
The victim, whose condition is not currently available, is expected to recover from his injuries. Police have urged anyone with additional information related to the carjacking to come forward.
