LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 40-year-old Louisville woman faces murder charges after a fatal crash involving a scooter earlier this week.
Erica Parker was initially arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and assault after hitting a scooter near South Hurstbourne Parkway just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to court documents and statements from Jeffersontown police.
The impact caused the scooter rider, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as 38-year-old Donell Johnson, to be knocked unconscious. Johnson was transported to a hospital, where he died Wednesday afternoon.
Parker told investigators she had consumed one beer approximately three hours prior to the crash but was reportedly unsteady on her feet and had the odor of alcohol on her breath at the time of the police encounter. Following a field sobriety test, she was arrested and charged with assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
On Friday, Parker’s bond was set at $250,000. A judge also ruled she could be placed on home incarceration while awaiting trial.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence surrounding the fatal incident.
