Baby girl, who had more than 100 tumours in her body when she was just a few days old and was not expected to survive, has made a recovery after nearly 1,000 chemo sessions. When the little girl was born, the doctors told the parents that their daughter had more than 100 tumours in her body when she was just a few days old. Unfortunately, the child first fell ill when she was just 1-day-old and scans revealed she had infantile myofibromatosis in its most severe form. The rare disorder causes benign tumours to grow in the skin, muscles, bones and organs.

The doctors told the parents, Simon and Katie, that their daughter was born with more than 100 tumours on her body and she was not expected to survive. Luckily, the baby has amazed doctors with her recovery and is now completely tumour-free. When Rachael was born, benign tumours were growing in every one of the her organs, including her heart, The Mirror reports.

During an interview, the 37-year-old mother, Katie, said that she and her 39-year-old husband were devastated when they discovered that their baby had more than 100 tumours in her body when she was just a few days old. The mom also said that she had a healthy pregnancy and had no idea of what was to come.

“The doctors said they had never seen anything like it in 40 years and didn’t know if they could treat Rachael as they had no case to compare her to. It was such a bleak start for her,” the unfortunate mother said. According to the parents, their baby daughter first fell ill when she was just 1-day-old. After running tests and scans, the doctors told the parents that their baby had infantile myofibromatosis in its most severe form. The rare disorder causes benign tumours to grow in the skin, muscles, bones and organs.

The doctors also told the parents the tumours were over every organ in her body, including several in her heart. Luckily, the baby was placed on a research trial and began intensive chemotherapy treatment when she was two weeks old. The doctors also said that Rachael’s condition was so rare, they had to take her treatment literally day by day. After one and a half year of chemotherapy sessions, all of her tumours disappeared. According to the parents, the doctors also said that they were developmental tumours which had begun in the womb, it was also unlikely they would return as they had not got any bigger during the 18 months of treatment.

During an interview, the 37-year-old mom reportedly said: “It was such an enormous relief when they told us they had completely gone and were no longer visible on any of the scans. The surgeon made a good decision in carrying on the treatment for so long as he made well and truly sure the tumours had all disappeared. He definitely saved her life. We are very proud of Rachael. She went through every step of her treatment showing tremendous courage. From the age of just two weeks old, she was fighting for her life. And despite everything she has been through, she’s the happiest child with a smile for everyone. Henry is thrilled to have his sister home – he doesn’t stop hugging her.” According to Katie and her husband, their baby daughter needs to be scanned every three months to check for tumours. “She is being watched very carefully but the doctors are confident that the tumours won’t grow back now,” the mother said.
