Man Indicted for 2019 Murder in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Jefferson County Grand Jury has indicted a man in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred nearly six years ago in Louisville.

Rotez Sykes, 24, faces charges of murder, robbery, and tampering with physical evidence following the fatal shooting of Martinus Williams Jr. on July 31, 2019. According to Louisville Metro Police, the incident took place in the 2300 block of West Oak Street, situated near the Park Hill and California neighborhoods.

Authorities say that the shooting, which claimed the life of Williams, was the result of a robbery gone awry. In addition to the murder charge, Sykes has been indicted for allegedly tampering with physical evidence in the aftermath of the crime.

Sykes, who is currently incarcerated at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex, is expected to be transported to Jefferson County to face the charges. As of now, a specific date for his transfer has not been announced.
