Madison Woman Arrested for Battery at Southern Indiana Elementary School

Louisville, Ky. — A 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged with multiple counts of battery after allegedly harming a child at Ryker’s Ridge Elementary School in southern Indiana.

The incident, which occurred on February 28, 2025, came to light when the Madison Consolidated School District became aware of a possible case of battery involving an instructional support staff member. In response, district officials immediately placed the employee on administrative leave and launched an internal investigation.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a detective conducted a series of interviews with potential victims, witnesses, and school administrators throughout the following days. The investigation led to the arrest of Sammi Clark, a resident of Madison, who was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 4. Clark now faces six counts of battery on a person under the age of 14.

In a statement released by the Madison Consolidated School District, officials confirmed that the employee involved did not meet the district’s standards for the physical safety and care of children. The district also reported that the situation was promptly reported to the Department of Child Services on the same day it was discovered, and law enforcement was notified through the proper channels.

“On Friday, February 28, 2025, the district administration became aware of a situation involving an instructional support person who did not meet our expectations regarding the physical safety and care of children in our schools,” the district said in its statement. “The situation was reported to the Department of Child Services on February 28, 2025, and law enforcement was notified through the system process. The district will continue to cooperate with law enforcement.”

The employee was terminated on March 3, 2025, following the investigation.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the specific nature of the incidents or the victims involved, but the investigation remains ongoing. The Madison Consolidated School District has pledged to continue working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

The arrest has raised concerns among parents and residents of Madison, but the district has reassured the community that steps are being taken to address the issue and prevent future incidents.
