Ohio Man Charged with Assault After Fleeing Traffic Stop in Taylorsville

TAYLORSVILLE, Ky. – An Ohio man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including assaulting a police officer, after a tense incident unfolded on Monday in Spencer County.

Evonte Young, 27, from Fairfield, Ohio, was apprehended following a dramatic sequence of events that began around 5 p.m. when he was spotted driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of New Jersey, was identified by Flock cameras in the Taylorsville area.

According to Spencer County Sheriff Andrew Ware, a deputy attempted to pull Young over during a routine traffic stop. However, Young did not comply and instead fled the scene, striking the deputy’s foot in the process and damaging the deputy’s vehicle as he sped away. Sheriff Ware praised the collaborative efforts of local law enforcement, thanking the Taylorsville Police Department for their assistance in the pursuit. “This incident could have been much worse,” he said.

Young, who had already been involved in another incident with Fairfield Police while attempting to flee, was later captured on Monday morning. Authorities charged him with assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, fleeing or evading police, and receiving stolen property, among other charges.

The injured deputy was treated for a foot injury and was released from the hospital shortly afterward, authorities confirmed. While the incident was tense, law enforcement officials are relieved that it did not result in more serious consequences.

Young remains in custody as the investigation continues.
