LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville woman has been charged with murder after allegedly strangling a patient to death at an addiction treatment facility in the Hazelwood neighborhood.
Angela Hensley, 48, was arrested two days after a patient at Praxis of Louisville by Landmark Recovery was found unresponsive in their room. Surveillance footage from the facility, which was reviewed by Louisville Metro Police investigators, reportedly shows Hensley entering the victim’s room Sunday. The victim, whose name has not been released, was seen standing when Hensley entered.
According to the arrest citation, around four minutes later, Hensley is seen leaving the room, at which point the victim was found lying on the floor. The footage shows Hensley reentering the room multiple times after the victim was found on the ground, yet she never informed the staff about the condition of the patient.
Hensley refused to participate in her arraignment on Wednesday morning. While seated in the front row of the courtroom, she remained silent, staring ahead without acknowledging the judge. A public defender was appointed to represent her, and a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.
The case has raised several questions surrounding the safety protocols at the treatment center, as well as the events leading up to the victim’s death. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, and it remains unclear whether the victim was targeted specifically by Hensley.
Hensley now faces serious charges, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding the crime.
