Two Drivers Arrested for Racing on I-264 in Louisville, Cars Impounded for Six Months

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two drivers were arrested on Monday night after being caught racing each other on the Watterson Expressway, also known as I-264, in Louisville. The Louisville Metro Police Department reported that both vehicles were traveling at speeds well over 100 miles per hour in the westbound lanes near Poplar Level Road.

According to authorities, a Honda Civic was clocked at 123 miles per hour, while a black Honda Accord followed closely behind at 119 miles per hour. The drivers were allegedly racing each other when police officers observed their dangerous speeds.

The two individuals were arrested and charged with speeding, reckless driving, and racing a motor vehicle on a public roadway. As per Louisville’s street exhibition ordinance, both vehicles were impounded and will remain in the lot for a period of six months.

The incident highlights growing concerns over street racing in the area, with local authorities continuing to crack down on such dangerous behavior. The city’s strict ordinances and penalties are intended to deter illegal racing, ensuring the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
