Louisville, Ky. — A 67-year-old man was arrested following a shooting in the Shawnee neighborhood on Saturday evening, according to Louisville Metro Police.
The incident occurred around 8:04 p.m. in the 600 block of Lindell Avenue, where police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the suspect as James Schooler Jr., who was taken into custody and charged with assault. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and working to determine the motive.
According to court documents, Schooler had been walking toward his front door when the victim, who was approaching him, allegedly threatened, “I’m going to end you,” and placed his hands near his waistband. In response, Schooler pulled out a gun and fired at the victim. However, no weapon was found on the victim, and Schooler reportedly told police that he did not see a weapon at the time of the incident.
Schooler also stated that he had never been threatened by the victim before the altercation. Investigators are continuing to look into the situation to uncover any additional details that might explain the shooting.
The LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is handling the investigation. Further information is expected as the case develops.
