Madisonville, KY — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is advising motorists to use extreme caution after a snowfall arrived late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Crews have been actively addressing the conditions, but officials warn that the combined effect of snow and ongoing flooding could create hazardous travel situations.

While the rainstorm that hit the region has passed, floodwaters in many areas remain, and the fresh snow could make it more difficult to identify flooded zones. The KYTC cautioned that drivers should remain vigilant, checking current road conditions before traveling and adhering to posted road signs.

Flooding concerns are heightened as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a warning about possible increased flooding along the Green and Ohio Rivers. Water from upstream is making its way into the area, and additional rain could exacerbate these conditions.

Local authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging the public to exercise caution if travel is absolutely necessary. The combination of snow, floodwaters, and potentially deteriorating conditions means that the coming hours may bring further challenges for both residents and travelers in the region.

Motorists are reminded that their safety is paramount, and it is always best to delay travel when possible until conditions improve.
