LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two people were taken to the hospital following a house fire in the Shawnee neighborhood on Sunday afternoon.
Louisville Fire Department crews were dispatched to the 4300 block of River Park Drive at approximately 3 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a 1.5-story single-family home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floor.
Firefighters quickly entered the building and began efforts to extinguish the blaze, successfully gaining control of the fire within 17 minutes. Two individuals were inside the home at the time of the fire. While they managed to escape the building, they sustained injuries. Both were treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.
No other occupants were inside the home at the time of the fire. Authorities have not yet released information on the cause of the fire, as the investigation is ongoing.
Firefighters’ swift response and quick action helped to prevent the spread of the flames, but the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Authorities will continue to investigate.
