Teens Rescue Driver from Vehicle in Ohio River after Medical Emergency

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A dramatic rescue unfolded Monday evening at the Greenwood Boat Ramp in southwest Jefferson County, where three teenagers acted quickly to save a driver whose vehicle had plunged into the Ohio River following a medical emergency.

According to Louisville Metro Police (LMPD), the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. when the driver, who had suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle and it veered into the water. The car became submerged, but the situation took a turn for the better thanks to the quick actions of nearby teens.

The three teenagers, who were fishing in the area, witnessed the vehicle enter the river and immediately sprang into action. Two of the teens jumped into the water, swimming to the submerged vehicle. They successfully managed to extract the driver from the car, preventing what could have been a tragic outcome. In addition to pulling the driver to safety, the teens tied a rope to a tree near the boat ramp to prevent the vehicle from drifting further into the river.

“The quick actions of these young men turned a potentially tragic situation into a positive one,” said LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis. “Their bravery and resourcefulness were instrumental in preventing the worst.”

Other individuals in the vicinity of the boat ramp also assisted in the rescue, further ensuring the safety of the driver.

When emergency responders arrived, the driver, who was conscious and alert, was transported to the hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

This act of bravery is being hailed as an example of how quick thinking and community support can save lives in critical situations.
