Shooting Near Louisville Elementary School Leaves One Woman Injured, Man Grazed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police are investigating a shooting that took place Wednesday afternoon near Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary School in the city’s Russell neighborhood. The incident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Chestnut Street, a busy area close to both the elementary school and Central High School.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire and arrived at the scene to discover two victims in the 1100 block of Place Blanc at the City View Park apartments. A woman had been shot, and a man suffered a graze wound. Both were immediately transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. Officials later confirmed that both victims are expected to survive their injuries.

John Bradley, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), stated that officers quickly provided “tactical trauma care” to the woman at the scene, a lifesaving measure that likely prevented further harm.

Major Bryan Edelen of LMPD confirmed that the investigation is being handled by the department’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit.

In the aftermath of the gunfire, staff at Coleridge-Taylor Montessori and nearby schools reported hearing shots, prompting Jefferson County Public Schools to implement heightened security protocols. As a precautionary measure, the district altered pickup procedures for the afternoon dismissal to ensure the safety of students.

The police have yet to release further details regarding the shooter or a motive for the attack, but investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Louisville Metro Police Department.
