LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead after a standoff in the Shawnee neighborhood early Tuesday morning, with police reporting that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began around 8:40 a.m. when officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) 2nd Division were called to the 4600 block of West Market Street in response to a domestic violence report.
Police met the victim, a woman, at a nearby location, where she claimed she had been assaulted by a man inside her home.
As officers approached the residence to make contact with the suspect, they heard a gunshot fired from inside the home. In response, LMPD called in the SWAT team, which secured the area and surrounded the house.
By 11:45 a.m., SWAT officers deployed a drone into the home to assess the situation.
The drone footage revealed that the man was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No LMPD officers discharged their firearms during the incident, and the department’s Public Integrity Unit has assumed control of the investigation due to the circumstances of the fatality.
This incident underscores the dangers of responding to domestic violence calls, which can often lead to unpredictable and violent situations. Since the beginning of 2025, LMPD has responded to approximately 3,885 domestic violence calls, according to a department statement.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the details surrounding the tragic outcome.
