LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A tragic crash occurred Wednesday night when a Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) officer collided with another vehicle, resulting in the death of the driver. The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. as the officer was en route to assist emergency medical services (EMS) on Interstate 65.
According to LMPD, officers were responding to a call on I-65 when a car unexpectedly turned in front of the officer on Fern Valley Road in the Newburg area. The officer was unable to avoid the collision and struck the vehicle.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, though their condition was not immediately released. Unfortunately, the driver of the other car involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet identified the driver of the car, and an investigation into the incident is underway. The LMPD’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation, and officials have urged anyone with information to come forward.
