Fatal Crash on Zion Road Linked to Medical Emergency

HENDERSON, Ky. – A tragic accident on Zion Road in Henderson on Monday afternoon has resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man. According to a press release from local authorities, officers were called to the scene at Zion and Garden Mile Road at approximately 3:40 p.m.

The collision occurred when a full-size truck, traveling eastbound on Zion Road, crossed into the westbound lane and struck a passenger car head-on. After the impact, the truck continued through a yard and onto a driveway, where it caused significant damage to three parked cars.

Responding officers arrived to find the driver of the truck unconscious. Emergency services immediately began performing CPR, and the driver was rushed to the hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have identified the truck driver as James Swanson, 70, of Henderson. It was determined that Swanson had suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash, which led to his incapacitation behind the wheel. Investigators have confirmed that the medical issue was the cause of his death.

Two individuals in the passenger car were also injured in the crash. The Henderson Fire Department had to use specialized equipment to extract the driver, who, along with a second occupant, was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The roadway was closed in both directions for over three hours as police investigated the scene and cleared the wreckage. The incident has left the community mourning the loss of a life while raising awareness about the dangers of medical emergencies occurring while driving.
