LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police are investigating a crash that occurred Sunday night in Shively, leaving one woman in critical condition. The incident took place shortly after 7 p.m. on Seventh Street Road at Wurtele Avenue.
According to a spokesperson for the Louisville Metro Police Department, Aaron Ellis, a car carrying two people—a man and a woman—had slowed down and was preparing to make a left turn onto Wurtele Avenue when it was struck by another vehicle. Police believe the second vehicle, driven by a woman, was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.
The impact of the crash caused the initial vehicle to be pushed into the northbound lanes of Seventh Street Road, where it was subsequently hit by a third car. The third car was also driven by a woman.
Both the driver and passenger of the first vehicle were transported to University Hospital. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the woman suffered injuries that were described as critical to life-threatening. The two drivers of the vehicles that collided with the initial car were also taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The Louisville Metro Police Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Authorities have not released further details regarding the drivers or the circumstances surrounding the high-speed collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
