LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Authorities have identified a 72-year-old Bardstown man who was found dead in a submerged vehicle in northeast Nelson County late Sunday night. The man, Gregory A. Pipps, was discovered after his vehicle reportedly drove into a pond, with officials suspecting that a medical emergency may have been the cause of the incident.
According to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials, the accident occurred in the 300 block of Chaplin Road around 10:30 p.m. A passerby reported seeing taillights in the pond, prompting a swift response from emergency crews. The Northeast Nelson County Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene and located the submerged vehicle.
While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, authorities believe that Pipps may have suffered a medical emergency before driving into the pond. Emergency responders worked diligently to recover the vehicle, but Pipps was pronounced dead at the scene.
